GoodSearch is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates 50% of its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities and schools designated by its users. The money donated comes from the site's advertisers. By clicking on "enter your charity here" or the "clear selection" button, users are free to change their designated charity as frequently as they wish. By clicking on "Amount Raised," users can also see at any time, how much money has been raised, and how many searches have been done on behalf of, each charity. This amount is updated every time someone performs a search. To see the updated amount, select a charity, click on "amount raised" and click on the page refresh button in your browser's toolbar. Features of the page that change several times per week include the "Charity of the Day" and "Success Stories." The latter has included The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Elephant Sanctuary, Save Darfur Coalition, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. The company was founded by Stanford graduates Ken and JJ Ramberg. Ken was the founder of Jobtrak , a job site aimed at college students (acquired by Monster.com), and JJ was one of the early employees at Cooking.com . As of December, 2006 more than 25,000 nonprofits were participating in GoodSearch |
